If your legal residence changed during 2007 (purchased a new
home, built a new home, or changed residences to a different
home you own), you must make application for your new legal
residence for tax year 2008.
We are pleased
to announce that, effective immediately, we are accepting credit
card payments on both the Internet and walk-up windows in the
Treasurer's Office for vehicle and current real estate
property taxes. However, no credit card payments will be accepted
over the telephone in the Treasurer's Office. You will need
to supply additional information about your auto insurance coverage
on vehicle tax payments.
For credit
card payments over the Internet, we have chosen to use Official
Payments Corp. to provide this service to Edgefield County taxpayers.
This company provides this service to many states, local counties
and to the United States Internal Revenue Service. Internet
credit card payments will be assessed a convenience fee charged
by Official Payment Corporation. This fee will show up as a
separate charge on your monthly statement. Edgefield County
does not receive any of this fee. A complete fee schedule follows
this information. You will be informed of the amount of the
fee before your transaction is completed and you will have an
opportunity to terminate the transaction if you do not wish
to accept the charge.
Please keep
in mind, per South Carolina State Law; you cannot pay a current
tax bill if there are outstanding prior year taxes on that same
property. Edgefield County will return any tax payment made
for current taxes if there are prior year taxes outstanding.
Any convenience fee paid will NOT
be refunded.
Please examine
all the information as you determine if this method of payment
suites your needs.
If you provide
an email address on the payment screen (optional), a confirmation
email will be returned to you. Also, in processing your Internet
payment, please provide the Treasurer's Office with a contact
phone number to reach you, if necessary, during our regular
business hours.
Remember
to print and save your confirmation number when completed. You
will be mailed an official tax receipt from the Treasurer's
Office within seven (7) business days of your payment.
